Bowdoinham - Wilhelminé "Billie" Dennis Oakes, 87, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, June 13, 2025, surrounded by her family.  She is the wife of Fulton Donald “Don” Oakes, Jr., with whom she shared nearly 64 years of marriage.

James C. Sullivan

Sullivanresized James C. Sullivan passed away on June 12, 2025. He was born in Oakland, Maine on June 30, 1936 to Maurice and Edith(Clark) Sullivan.

Jim worked for the State of Maine Department of Agriculture as well as the Ritz Carlton in Naples Florida. He was a longtime member of the Waterville Elks Club, as well as the Waterville Lions Club. James enjoyed cooking, family gatherings, traveling, and following New England sports.

Alton E. Sutherland

With profound love and deep sorrow, we announce the passing of Alton E. Sutherland Sr., 89, of Dresden, Maine, who left this world peacefully on June 9, 2025, surrounded by the family he so dearly cherished.

Born on April 23, 1936, to Emery Sutherland and Lucy (Young) Sutherland, Alton grew up with a strong sense of service, family, and a passion for the great outdoors. He proudly served his country for 23 years in the United States Air Force (1954–1977), a commitment that reflected his discipline, courage, and love of country. Following his military service, Alton brought the same dedication to his work at Deep Sea Ventures (1977–1980) and later to the State of Maine Department of Education, where he served from 1980 until his retirement in 2000.

Thomas D. Batchelder

Thomas D. Batchelder, 60, formerly of Richmond passed away on May 31, 2025 in Braintree, Massachusetts.
 
He was born in Gardiner, Maine on June 6, 1964 the son of Chester and Beatrice Mansir- Batchelder.
Tom worked for many years for Kirschner Foods of Augusta.
 
He enjoyed fishing, hunting and just being outdoors. Tom also enjoyed working on vehicles and knew the specs of them all.
He was predeceased by his parents, grandfather Charles D. Batchelder, and brother Chris D. Elliot.
 
Tom is survived by his sons Thomas (Michele)and David Batchelder (Crystal), daughter Jessica Beck, his brother Chris’s wife Cheri, sister Karen Colby, 11 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Laurette Dumas Chapman

IMG 0507TURNER – Laurette Dumas Chapman, born on June 22, 1928, passed away at the Horizons Living and Rehab Center on May 7, 2025 at the age of 96.

Laurette had a full life and a loving family. The last to pass away of five sisters, she was born in Lisbon Falls and grew up in Durham. Laurette married Robert Willette and had four children.

John Patrick Hurley, Jr.

website HurleyJohn Patrick Hurley Jr., 60, of Richmond, ME and Venice, FL, lost his short fight with pancreatic cancer on April 20, 2025. He was born on September 20th, 1964 to John Hurley Sr. and Marion (Moody) Hurley. John graduated from Richmond High School in 1982 and worked at Bath Iron Works from 1987 to 2002 before starting his own business, Hurley Yard Works. He was an avid hunter and champion clay pigeon shooter, he enjoyed being outdoors, and taught many years of hunter safety. He was a member of the Richmond Sportsman's Club, Masonic Village Lodge #26, Gardiner Elks and Eagles Clubs and a regular performer at Richmond Players shows.

Bette Jean Chapman

Bette loved her children Joel, Rachel and Issabella. She also loved the times she was able to visit her son and daughter in law Katie overseas in the United Kingdom, and to see her grandchildren there; Poppy, Maisy and River. Bette was also very close with her daughter in laws mother and stepfather, Allison and Steven. Bette also cherished the time she was able to spend with her daughter Rachel's boys; Basil, Finnian and Jude.

Mark Robert Allen

He is the son of Ann and Victor Edgecomb and Gary and Michelle Allen. Mark graduated from Lincoln Academy in 2000. Mark attended CMVTI in Auburn training as a machinist. Mark joined the Maine National Guard and then served in the US Army, stationed in Barstow, California. Mark continued his machinist work and worked for the State of Maine DOT and Bath Iron Works.
